Any cooked or uncooked food which gets discarded.
The UK produces an estimated 16 million tonnes of food waste every year! Sadly, most of it still goes to landfill, but all that is changing. And the Food Waste Network is here to help!
All types of food can be recycled – everything from raw vegetable scraps and tea bags to egg shells and even cooked or raw meat and bones! You can even recycle compostable food packaging together with your food waste.
Sometimes this unwanted food could still actually be eaten – for example, perfectly good bread which is unsold at the end of the day. There are lots of great organisations working to redistribute surplus food - see the links to our friends.
