how it all started

The Food Waste Network is an initiative created by Vegware, the UK’s first and only completely compostable food packaging firm.

Vegware had long been referring its customers to food waste recycling firms who could divert their used Vegware and food waste from landfill. But given that now landfill is the most expensive destination for waste, Vegware wanted to help all its UK customers learn about food waste recycling services in their area.

So Vegware picked up the phone and started talking to every firm in the UK who has anything to do with food waste recycling - all the food waste recycling facilities, collection firms and on-site recycling systems.

In the course of their research, they found that databases on the web were either out of date or hard to use, or both. They also discovered that there was no one single source of information on food waste recycling services. So they realised their freshly-gathered information was a useful resource for any UK business, not just Vegware customers. So here we have the Food Waste Network. This is Vegware’s pledge as a founding Supporter of WRAP’s new voluntary agreement on Hospitality and Foodservice.

The Food Waste Network aims to bring together all information about UK food waste recycling services and offer a free enquiry service for any UK business. Find out how it works.

what they say

Marcus Gover, Director, WRAP: "We are very impressed that Vegware and its Food Waste Network are helping the catering sector minimise waste to landfill. They truly deserve the BCE Award for Environmental Leadership."

Iain Gulland, Director, Zero Waste Scotland: “Not only are Vegware passionate about their product and the environment, they are also passionate about their customers helping the environment too. There is clear evidence that Vegware are ‘more than just a business’ and are really engaging with their customers, staff and the local community to affect positive environmental change.”
